What is Something To Wear?

Something To Wear is a social fashion sharing platform, where you can list the items in your closet, and rent from others in your area. With the focus on social, financial and environmental sustainability, STW aims to increase accessibility to high quality pieces, create a return on your fashion investment, and reduce consumption. STW is working to shift shopper mindset away from consumerism towards a sharing economy.

What are the fees for using STW?

There is a 20% commission towards STW that helps us grow our offerings, develop our site and provide the best customer service possible.

What if my item is lost or damaged?

As a renter, upon receiving the item, please inspect it thoroughly to ensure it matches the described condition. If you notice any discrepancies, kindly document and promptly contact the lender within 24 hours. You are responsible for returning the garment in the condition as received. Treat the clothes like you would your friends', but accidents do happen. If any mishaps occur during your rental, reach out to the lender immediately and come up with a solution on how to fix it. Dry cleaners are miracle workers and can mend, clean and fix more than you'd expect- but reach out to the lender first before attempting any fixes yourself!

As a lender, when you receive the returned item, please conduct an inspection to ensure there is no excessive damage. Some general wear and tear is normal, like a loose thread, missing sequins, or washable scuffs. If you notice damage beyond this, kindly photograph it and get in touch with the renter within 48 hours of the return. If a conclusion is not agreed upon how to proceed with fixing the garment, please email us at NOTE: THE RENTER IS LIABLE FOR THE COST OF FIXING THE GARMENT OR REPLACING THE GARMENT, WHICHEVER IS LESS. By using our platform, you agree to this in the rental agreement. Stripe will charge the card on file automatically if the dispute escalates to this point.

How is my payment information stored?

All payment information is processed and secured by Stripe. Something To Wear does not hold any payment information.

How do I ship the item?

We aren't able to create shipping labels for you (yet), but we have made the process simple with our shipping guide below!

Who is responsible for cleaning the clothing?

The lender is responsible for cleaning the item between wears. All items must arrive to the borrower cleaned and in the condition described in the listing.

What if the borrower is late to return the item?

All late arrivals will be charged 2x the daily rental cost. The rental must be reshipped on the final day of the rental to avoid this daily penalty. The credit card that is on file with Stripe will be automatically charged.

What if the item doesn’t fit?

We understand that sizing varies between clothes, so we encourage discussion with the lender on measurements/any alterations that have been made to the clothing before finalizing the rental. If the item does not fit upon receipt, you must contact STW ( and reship the item within 24 hours. You will receive site credit equal to the rental amount, less shipping.
